McMichael represented the Republic of Uruguay in an appeal to the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. McMichael was the principal drafter of the post-trial motions and appellate briefs and succeeded in staying execution on a $200 million judgment.

The case involved sophisticated issues of international law dealing with sovereign immunity and execution on foreign judgments.

McMichael is fluent in Spanish and conducted meetings with the client in Spanish.
